It’s things like this that make Taylor Swift one of my favorite people in the world. She’s always doing something kind of other human beings and this is no different.

When Redditor GodIsMerciful was in Boston Children’s Hospital earlier this year receiving treatment for leukemia, a nurse brought in a keyboard so he could pass the time. The young man, who plays the piano, says he started learning to play Adele’s “Someone Like You,” jotting down the notes of the song on some blank staff paper.

Little did he know that he’d soon get an unexpected visitor who would go on to perform a duet with him.

Taylor Swift had been visiting patients at Boston Children’s Hospital in early August when she popped in to say hello. Sharing his memories of that special encounter this week, the Redditor, whose real name is Ben, wrote on the social news site Tuesdaythat he was only told a few minutes before Swift’s arrival that she would be coming by.

The 20-year-old admitted that he was “so nervous,” but once there, Swift — whom he described as a “wonderful,” “genuine” person — put him at ease.

The young man posted the duet of him and Swift performing “Someone Like You” on YouTube Aug. 5, and since then, the clip has been watched more than 400,000 times.

“I’m not into Taylor Swift’s music but this is pretty cool,” wrote one YouTuber Tuesday after watching the clip.

“BEAUTIFUL! I almost cried,” said another.

Though his meeting with Swift was brief, Ben — who wrote his cancer is in full remission following intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant — says it still made a profound impact. “I felt like the luckiest person in the world for days afterward,” he quipped.

In an email to The Huffington Post Tuesday, Ben said that when he met Swift, he was blown away by her humility and kindness. “I think it is awesome that she visits patients in the hospital. It really shows where her heart is,” he said.

He added that the visit was “one of the greatest experiences” of his life — one that gave him such “encouragement and helped get [his] mind off of things” during a very trying time. “I will never forget this experience,” he said.
